In Thanks (a post in honor of Thanksgiving)

* For those of you reading that are not from Canada, this Monday is Thanksgiving for us. Our family had the opportunity to host my side of the family on Sunday for a get-together. It is such a blessing to have a home and the space to host. We are blessed to live within 30 minutes of all of our family members. While that is a blessing, at times I think we take each other for granted and don’t get together nearly as often as we should or could. Happy Thanksgiving!

Today, I’m thankful

I’m thankful for my relationship with my heavenly Father. I love how he has blessed me with comfort during the difficult times of the past few months. I love that he loves me unconditionally, no matter what.

I’m thankful for my husband, Bernd. He is patient when I lose my temper. He loves unconditionally. He works hard so our family can live and give well.

I’m thankful for “my dream come true” children. Each is unique. Each brings a different blessing to our home. They are healthy and vibrant. I am blessed to be able to home educate them. It brings me great joy.

I’m thankful for my parents and my siblings. I love the relationship that I enjoy with my mom. She calls or texts often and it helps fill the lonely moments. I love my dad, he’s always ready with a good story. I’m thankful for all the fun memories of the growing up years I share with my siblings. They are great blessings in my life.

I’m thankful for my in-laws. Though we’ve been through a hard summer of loss, I see how God has been faithful. Each of my in-laws blesses me often.

I’m thankful for the many women I call friends. Each and every one of them helps bring a different level of beauty to my life. Some of them challenge me to grow. Others are a lot of fun. Some of them tend to ask me a lot of questions about how I do different things and make me feel like I might just know something. Best of all, though, is the fact that I can lean on all of them when I’m not strong. I’m so thankful.

I’m thankful for my home, vehicle, and many belongings. No, my home isn’t the largest or nicest on the block, but it is exactly the right size for us and pretty darn nice, too.

I’m thankful for the food I eat and the clothes I wear. No, I don’t have a large closet of clothes, but the clothes I do have are ones that I like and enjoy. This works for me.

My Challenge to you:

This Thanksgiving (and always), take the time to find something to be grateful for, instead of complaining. There is always, always, always something that could be a lot worse in our lives. Yes, it takes intention to be thankful even in bad times. However, I think it is well worth the effort.

Blessings for a very Happy Thanksgiving!
